PLAY! BY SEPHORA is a great way to test out some really awesome beauty products. Check out this month’s items I received.
The April 2018 PLAY! By Sephora is all about products that deliver quick camera ready results.
I received shade #8. This is a skin tint that blurs and enhances the look of your skin. It includes an spf of 25. It is supposed to provide sheer-medium coverage. However after I blended it, the coverage was more on the sheer side. See photos below. In my opinion, you still need a higher SPF underneath this, but this would be a nice moisturizing, light foundation for someone who doesn’t need much coverage.
I think this shade is too dark for my skin, but below is how it looks when you 1st sqeeze it out of the tube and how it looks with one swipe. Of course it would need to be blended so you don’t look like a cake face. The picture below this one shows it blended out. It blends out very nicely and has just the right amount of moisturization. It is not greasy, not matte, just a nice soft glow.
INGREDIENTS: I could not find ingredients (other than the active ingredients) on this box. I looked on the Make Up For Ever website and Sephora’s website as well and the ingredients are not listed. Not listing ingredients is a major fumble in my opinion because I ALWAYS read ingredients before I purchase a product. I will not be purchasing this as I have no idea what’s in it.
This is an ultra-light moisturizer packed full of great ingredients such as meadowfoam seed oil, cold pressed chia seed oil, green tea, vitamin C & E and hyaluronic acid. It has a very lightweight feel. When I first squeezed it out of the deluxe sample, it looks like a gel/light cream and comes out almost runny, not thick and heavy. It wasn’t greasy at all. It blended into my skin beautifully and left it feeling soft, glowy and hydrated.
So I will start by stating that I LOVE LIPGLOSS! I am a lipgloss fanatic. I own hundreds of different glosses, so I would consider myself a lipgloss snob. This is supposed to be an ultra shiny gloss, but it was no where near ultra shiny on me. It just has a nice sheen to it. So if you are really looking for something to make your lips look super wet, this is not the one. However, if you are looking for a gloss that has a light shine, is not sticky or tacky, doesn’t dry out your lips and tastes oh so yummy, then you will want to check this out. Out of all my glosses, I must say that this has the best flavor EVER. I literally want to eat this. It is vanilla mint flavored, so sweet, makes your mouth feel fresh but takes away your urge to eat dessert…ok who am I kidding, I still want a donut! Anyways, the color I received was SPL, a holographic candy pink w/ iridescent sparkle. And when they say sparkle, they mean GLITTER…lots of it. I’m not huge fan of wearing chunks of glitter on my lips everyday, because when the color fades, just the glitter remains on my lips and somehow on my face too. I prefer an iridescent gloss with a bit of shimmer, not glitter. But I still really liked this. It says that this gloss has a plumping effect, but I didn’t really notice and no worries, there is zero stinging, burning or tingling like some other plumping glosses. With this gloss, your lips just look like soft, juicy, kissable pillows. I probably won’t be kissing my husband with these so he doesn’t get glitter all over him, but I will have to try other colors in this line as they are not all glittery. This is definitely a fun lipgloss to try.
This is a 12.5% Vitamin C serum/cream. I have used this before in the past and didn’t really notice any changes in my skin. However I have alot of hyperpigmentation and melasma. This will help give you a nice glow. For my skin, there are far better Vitamin C serums out there. I will use this on my arms or hands so it doesn’t go to waste. It is MADE IN THE USA.

If you are new to retinol or cannot use presription strength Retin-A, these are something you should consider trying. I use Retin-A .01% already but sometimes I can’t use it on my neck/chest and then some nights I just want something not so intense, yet still powerful to reduce my wrinkles and build collagen.
These are single use, pre-moistened pads, each in an individual wrapper. So they are fabulous if you travel. Although over the counter retinol isn’t as potent as presription strenth retinoids, these are still awesome pads to try. When I used them, my skin had a nice glow and looked more firm. I also don’t experience that icky peeling and flaking with these, as I sometimes get with my prescription strength Retin-A. Don’t forget, with all retinols/retinoids…*USE THESE ONLY AT NIGHT*
Just to clarify: I have purchased these a couple times in the past and I really liked them. I stopped purchasing because I had overlooked that they had SD Alcohol in them. I really didn’t notice any irritation from the alcohol but it’s so high up on the ingredients list, so I decided to not repurchase a 3rd time, just in case. But I really did enjoy how my skin looked after just the 1st use. If alcohol doesn’t irritate your skin, then you will probably really like these.

*****THIS MONTH’S BONUS GIFT***** I believe I was supposed to receive the Nirvana White, but I received the Bourbon instead. I can’t decide yet if I would purchase this. I did NOT like it when I 1st sprayed it becuase it really has a strong woodsy and smoky, (like a woodsy barrel scent) and it was almost too manly for me. But after it dried down for at least 30 minutes, I forgot I had sprayed it and was like, “yum something smells good”. Then I realized….. IT WAS ME! Haha! It is a warm/spicy scent and features tuberose, oakwood and bourbon vanilla. It lasted a very long time but just had a nice light but sensual scent the rest of the day. My faves are still Chanel Chance Eau Tendre and Eau Fraiche but they just don’t last. I’m glad I received this bonus sample as I need to branch out and try new scents.
*DID YOU KNOW* If you go into a Sephora, you can typically receive up to 3 FREE perfume samples if you ask an associate. This is a great way to try out a perfume BEFORE you buy it, as fragrances change based on your body chemistry and especially once they dry down. Ask an associate next time you visit your Sephora.
